Stefan D’Angona, Technical Director

Stefan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of California. Upon completion of his studies, he remained in the Bay Area and began working for Curtis & Tompkins. He has 12 years of environmental chemistry experience, focusing on technical development and process improvement.

Matt's picture
Matt Carroll, IT Director

While Matt began his career in IT, his love for chemistry and the environment led him to the University of California, Riverside, where he received a B.S. in Environmental Science in 2006. Shortly after that he began working as a chemist for Curtis & Tompkins, but when an opportunity to combine his two passions (computers and environmental chemistry) presented itself in 2008, he joined the C&T IT team to develop and improve our custom-built, best-in-class LIMS.

Matt used to spend his free time reading about new technology, playing tennis, playing the guitar, reading science fiction & nonfiction, and biking or walking with his wife along the bay. As a father of two young children, he doesn’t have much free time anymore.

Ben's picture
Ben Phillips, Operations Management

Ben fell in love with the Bay Area while earning his bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Applied Mathematics at UC Berkeley. He first joined the C&T team in 2007 as an analyst, moving through a number of departments before taking over management of the laboratory. As Operations Manager, Ben draws upon over a decade of leadership experience in analytical, research and development, and quality assurance laboratory settings, and he takes pride in working closely with each department to ensure our data integrity and productivity goals are never in conflict.

While he considers himself much of a “lab rat,” he also spends his time mediating cat and puppy disputes at home, tinkering with his favorite recipes in the kitchen, and tackling home improvement projects with his wife.

Will's picture
Will Rice, Technical Sales & Project Management

Will Rice became deeply involved in environmental monitoring and laboratory analysis as soon as he could. Within his first year at University California Santa Cruz he had a position at an academic lab studying wetland health and ecology. This work was later used by the State of California to make a case for wetland protection in the Pajaro Valley. He continued on to intern for an environmental justice agency and performed a water quality study for the city of Santa Cruz that he carried out independently. After graduating he worked as an analyst for 3 years in environmental testing, during which he was sent to Alaska and helped in the construction and operation of a remote field lab. Now in this new role of project management he is better able to couple his love for the protection of people and the environment with a more direct connection to the work and efforts involved in furthering these causes.

On his own time Will writes and records music. He enjoys camping, hiking and cooking. He lives in Oakland with his girlfriend
